Before you install
iPhone and iPad. Install the free TestFlight app from the App Store, then open the invitation link in the release below. Updates arrive through TestFlight.
Mac. macOS 26 or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Open the DMG and drag E1pi to Applications. On first launch macOS asks for microphone and folder access; those prompts belong to the pipe-shell feature.
Windows. Windows 10 (build 19041) or later, 64-bit. The installer is not yet code-signed, so SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway.
Build 47
latest
A new E1pi window now always lands on top. Press Option + Space while Safari, Mail or any other app is in front, or pick New Window from the Dock icon or the menu bar icon, and the fresh window opens in front of whatever you were looking at, ready to type into. Until now it could open behind the other app's window, where you had to go and find it. Mac users on build 19 or later receive this through the in-app update banner.
What changed on Mac
- Option + Space from any app: the new window comes to the front and becomes the active window, even when another app's window was covering the spot where it opens.
- Dock icon, right-click, New Window: the same. Choosing a Dock menu item does not bring an app forward by itself, so the app now does it. The menu bar icon's New Window behaves the same way.
- The window still opens at the size of the front E1pi window, cascaded down and to the right as before.
Windows
- No new build: 1.0.17 (14 September) remains current. Windows does not have this problem: Alt + Space only works while an E1pi window is in front, and the new window it opens is always brought forward.
iPhone and iPad
- No new build: windows are a desktop feature. Build 46 stays on the TestFlight link.
Build 32
Grok Voice keeps talking when your iPhone screen is locked. Until now the Grok conversation lived inside the web page, and iOS pauses web pages the moment the screen locks, so listening stopped and the connection dropped. From this build the microphone, the playback and the connection to Grok run natively in the app, the same way dictation already does, so you can lock the phone, put it in your pocket and carry on the conversation. The Mac app gets the same native audio path.

What changed on iPhone and iPad
- Start Grok Voice from the x.ai icon in the footer, lock the screen, and the conversation continues: Grok keeps listening and answering, and the orange microphone indicator stays on.
- Unlock the phone and the Grok panel catches up with what you said last and what Grok replied.
- Asking Grok to do something on screen (open a report, search sessions, read the page) needs the screen unlocked. If you ask while locked, Grok tells you to unlock first instead of stalling.
- If the connection drops (for example when the phone switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data), the app reconnects on its own, up to three times, before giving up and telling you.
- A phone call or Siri taking the microphone ends the Grok session cleanly. AirPods connecting or disconnecting mid-conversation are handled.
- Includes everything from builds 29 to 31: push notifications, the approval banner with Allow and Reject, and the owner alert with the three AI actions.
What changed on Mac
- Grok Voice uses the same native microphone, playback and connection path as the iPhone build, with system echo cancellation so Grok does not hear itself through the speakers. Everything else is unchanged from build 28.
- Mac users on build 19 or later receive this through the in-app update banner.
Windows
- No new build: 1.0.17 (14 September) remains current. Grok Voice on Windows continues to run inside the web page.
Build 28
The E1pi menu bar icon gains an About e1pi item. Click it and the standard macOS About panel opens with the version and build you are running, plus the details support asks for when something goes wrong: whether this is the Developer ID build with pipe shell, your macOS version and chip, and how Option + Space is currently scoped. The text is selectable, so you can copy it straight into a message. Mac users on build 19 or later receive this through the in-app update banner.

What changed on Mac
- New About e1pi item at the bottom of the menu bar icon menu, below New Window and the Option + Space checkbox.
- The About panel shows the app icon with Version 1.0 (28), the build channel (Developer ID build with pipe shell on, or a sandboxed or debug build), your macOS version and whether the Mac is Apple silicon or Intel, the current Option + Space scope (any app or E1pi only), the bundle identifier and the web address the app loads.
- When you report a problem, open About e1pi and quote the build number so we know exactly which release you are on.
Windows
- No new build: 1.0.17 (14 September) remains current.
iPhone and iPad
- No new build: the menu bar is a Mac feature. Build 24 (13 September) stays live on the TestFlight link.
Build 27
E1pi one keystroke away, from anywhere on the Mac. Press Option + Space while you are in Safari, Mail, Excel or any other app and E1pi comes to the front with a fresh window cascaded over the last one — no need to click E1pi first. A small E1pi icon now sits in the menu bar: click it for New Window, and for a checkbox that decides whether Option + Space belongs to E1pi everywhere or only while E1pi is the front app. Untick it and other apps get the key back, for example to type a non-breaking space. The choice is remembered. Mac users on build 19 or later receive this through the in-app update banner.

What changed on Mac
- Option + Space works from any app, not only while E1pi is in front. E1pi is brought forward and the new window opens at the size of the front E1pi window, cascaded down and to the right as in build 25. No Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission is requested.
- New E1pi icon in the menu bar with two items: New Window, and the checkbox "Option + Space from any app". Ticked, the key is E1pi's everywhere and other apps no longer see it. Unticked, the shortcut still works inside E1pi while other apps keep their own use of Option + Space. The setting survives relaunches.
- If another app already owns Option + Space when E1pi starts (a launcher such as Raycast or Alfred, or Siri set to that key), the checkbox turns itself off. Free the key in the other app and tick it again.
- Build 27 replaces build 26 from earlier the same day, which was withdrawn: clicking the new menu bar icon crashed the app. If you installed 26, take the update banner or download 27 here.
Windows
- No new build: 1.0.17 (14 September) remains current, with Alt + Space opening a cascaded window while E1pi is focused.
iPhone and iPad
- No new build: keyboard shortcuts and the menu bar are desktop features. Build 24 (13 September) stays live on the TestFlight link.
Build 25
More than one E1pi at a time, without losing any of them. Press Option + Space on the Mac or Alt + Space on Windows and a second E1pi window opens at exactly the size of the one you are in, a little down and to the right of it, the way Finder and Explorer stack their windows. Keep pressing and the windows fan out across the screen; when the next one would fall off the edge it starts again from the top-left corner. Each window is its own chat, so you can run a report in one while you type in another. Mac users on build 19 or later and Windows users on 1.0.16 receive this through the in-app update banner.

What changed on Mac
- Option + Space opens another E1pi window at the same size as the front one, cascaded down and to the right so every open window stays visible. Command + N and New Window in the Dock menu now cascade the same way. When a window would run off the screen, the next one starts again from the screen's top-left corner.
- The shortcut works while you are typing in the page: the app catches it before the web view does.
- Brings the voice fixes released to iPhone and iPad in builds 22 to 24: one voice session at a time (fixes a crash after a voice-requested report), tool activity shown in the voice panel and the session log, and the on-device voice model now configured from the web app, so voice prompt and tuning changes no longer need a new build.
What changed on Windows, 1.0.17
- Alt + Space opens another E1pi window at the same size, cascaded over the current one; the OS system menu, the usual Alt + Space action, does not open while E1pi is focused. If PowerToys Run is installed with its default Alt + Space shortcut, it takes the key first.
- Each window remains its own process, exactly as when you launch E1pi twice from the Start menu.
iPhone and iPad
- No new build: window shortcuts are a desktop feature. Build 24 (13 September) is approved and live on the TestFlight link with the voice fixes above, AirPods as the default microphone and voice model configuration from the page.
Build 20
Voice commands, done properly. Tap the microphone and just say what you want — "show me profit and loss for SG for the last six months", "open my sessions", "switch to light mode", "read the last answer". Apple's on-device model hears you and acts inside the app itself; it hands data questions to the E1pi AI and reads the answer back. Nothing you say is typed into the input box any more. Mac users on build 19 receive this build through the new in-app update banner.
What changed on Mac, iPhone and iPad
- Voice commands. The microphone icon starts a conversation: your words appear in the floating panel while you speak; when you pause, the on-device model decides what to do and does it inside the app — opening screens, changing the theme, handing a report request to the E1pi AI, reading the answer aloud — then listens for your next request. Stop or the mic icon ends it.
- The on-device model works through a single action, running code inside the page, so any request the app can fulfil is reachable by voice. It needs Apple Intelligence switched on (iPhone 15 Pro or later; Apple silicon Mac).
- Removed: voice dictation into the message box, the "Run AI" button in the panel and the prompt-rewrite step from build 18.
- Everything else from builds 18 and 19 remains: read-aloud, in-app updates on the Mac, portrait-only Mac window.
Windows
- No new build. Voice commands need Apple's on-device model, so they are not available on Windows; the in-app update banner from 1.0.16 stays.
Build 19
The Mac and Windows apps now update themselves. When a new build is published, a banner appears inside the app: Update now downloads it, installs it and restarts the app; Later hides the banner for a day. No update framework is involved: the app reads release announcements from the same activity feed it already keeps in sync. This is the last build you install by hand.
What changed on Mac
- In-app updates. A banner at the top of the window announces a new Mac build with its release notes. Update now downloads the disk image, checks that the app inside is signed by E1pi, swaps it into Applications and relaunches — about ten seconds, no Finder dragging. Later snoozes the banner for 24 hours.
- Builds 17 and 18 show the banner too, but cannot install themselves: their Update now opens this page. Install build 19 once by hand and every later build arrives through the banner.
- Everything from build 18 is included: voice mode, read-aloud, on-device request rewriting, portrait-only window.
What changed on Windows, 1.0.14 to 1.0.16
- In-app updates, same banner as the Mac. Update now downloads the installer and runs it silently; Windows asks for administrator approval once, then the app comes back on its own.
- 1.0.13 and earlier show the banner but open this page instead of installing; install 1.0.16 once by hand.
iPhone and iPad
- Build 18 (voice mode with on-device request rewriting, read-aloud, mic icon) was uploaded to TestFlight today. Internal testers have it now; the public link serves it as soon as Apple's beta review passes, usually within hours. Updates on iPhone and iPad continue to arrive through TestFlight.
Build 18
Mac-only release. Voice mode arrives: talk to E1pi hands-free. Your words are understood on the Mac itself by Apple's on-device model, the request runs, and the answer is read back to you. The Mac window is now portrait-only.
What changed on Mac
- Voice mode. The microphone icon is back in the footer. Tap it, then tap the repeat-arrows button in the listening panel to switch voice mode on (it stays on). Speak, pause, and E1pi cleans up your words with Apple's on-device model, runs the request, reads the answer aloud and listens again. Stop ends the loop. With voice mode off the panel works as before: dictate, then tap the sparkles to run.
- Read aloud is back: every answer has a speaker icon that plays it with Apple's on-device voice (Zoe Premium). If the voice is missing, download it once in System Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices.
- The on-device rewrite needs Apple Intelligence switched on (Apple silicon Mac, macOS 26). Without it your dictated words are sent unchanged, so voice mode still works end to end.
- Portrait-only window: the full-screen (zoom) button is gone; make the window bigger by dragging its edges.
iPhone, iPad and Windows
- iPhone and iPad build 18 went to TestFlight later the same day (see build 19). No new Windows build; the mic icon, listening panel and read-aloud are web features and appear in every app that hosts them.
Build 17
The app now opens ai.e1pi.com. The public website moved to e1pi.com on Azure Front Door and old app links redirect, so earlier builds keep working, but this build talks to the app host directly.
What changed on iPhone, iPad and Mac
- Web view and the local-port tunnel client point at
https://ai.e1pi.com instead of https://e1pi.com.
- Mac: the x1 Remote Desktop SSH tunnel is closed when the app quits, so no tunnel outlives the app.
- Mac: the release is now a Developer ID signed, Apple-notarized DMG (this download). The macOS TestFlight track is paused; iPhone and iPad continue on TestFlight.
- Mac: a frosted-glass window (translucent web view over a blurred desktop) was trialled and reverted; the window looks the same as build 16.
What changed on Windows, 1.0.5 to 1.0.13
- Opens
https://ai.e1pi.com/v21.html; *.e1pi.com stays inside the app, other links open in the browser.
- Sign-in uses the system browser by default; the Windows account broker (WAM) is opt-in with a full fallback, and is skipped for the built-in Administrator account.
- Window chrome matches the Mac app: rounded corners, visible edge and shadow. The Windows 10 window region was dropped because it disabled desktop composition and exposed the thick legacy frame.
- Every build is version-stamped (1.0.N) in the title bar and on the loading screen.
- x1 Remote Desktop SSH tunnels are closed when the last E1pi window closes.
- An acrylic "glass" window was trialled and reverted; the app keeps the opaque dark window.
Build 16
First release with the pipe-shell Mac build and the first Windows app. Opens https://e1pi.com/v21.html, which now redirects to ai.e1pi.com.

What changed on Mac
- Native e1piShell bridge for the AI pipe-shell tool: the assistant can run terminal commands on the Mac from the chat, with the app's consent flow.
- Route Local Port (tunnel) moved to its own window, with a menu-bar status item offering Stop and Quit.
- Two build tracks: a sandboxed build for TestFlight and an unsandboxed Developer ID build for pipe shell; the App Sandbox is off on the pipe-shell build so commands can run.
- Native macOS TestFlight track added (business category set as Apple requires); replaced from build 17 by the DMG.
What changed on Windows, 1.0.1 to 1.0.4
- New WinUI 3 + WebView2 host for the E1pi web app, the Windows counterpart of the iOS and Mac app.
- Windows 10 launch crash (0xC000027B) fixed by guarding title-bar colours; a crash.log is written on failure.
- Startup XamlParseException fixed by publishing the app resource index (PRI).
- Sign-in falls back to the system browser when the Windows account broker cannot run.
Build 15
TestFlight-only release for iPhone and iPad; Mac users ran the "Designed for iPad" build from TestFlight. No Windows app existed yet.

What changed on iPhone, iPad and Mac
- First-launch sync status overlay shown over the black loading screen while the app prepares.
- Camera crash on file upload fixed by declaring camera usage.
- Mac: window minimum size removed (was 360 by 640), so the window can be made as small as you like.
- Mac: fixed the "no application set to open the URL about:blank" dialog.
- Tunneled Ollama: intermittent 403 fixed by rewriting the Host header on every keep-alive request.
- The tunnel stays alive after closing the Route Local Port sheet.
Build numbers are shared by the iPhone, iPad and Mac app; Windows carries its own 1.0.N number. Older TestFlight builds expire automatically after 90 days.
